Surprise Proposal ~ Hanalei
THE PLANNING
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to shoot yet another amazing Kauai Surprise Proposal out at Hanalei Bay. I was contracted by Veronika at Ali`i Kauai weddings for photography. Veronika was hired by Brian who was going to propose to his girlfriend Jennifer. The plan was to pop the question standing amidst flowers on one of the most beautiful beaches of the world as the sun lit the sky on fire. Moreover add a Hawaiian musician playing her favorite song in the background and it was sure to make her heart melt.
Famous local guitarist Garret was contracted to be the musician. He stood by me tuning his guitar as we waited for the couple. Veronika had made a beautiful flower circle on the beach, and as usual it attracted the attention of people passing by. But we all hid behind a bush to stay out of sight and hoped people left before our couple arrived.
THE PROPOSAL
For all Jennifer knew she was going for a walk on the beach with Brian. Veronika spotted them walking down the beach. Brian seemed very calm and centered and they both casually walked to the flower circle. Meanwhile I started capturing them with my telephoto lens from my hideout.
On reaching the circle they both stopped and admired it, then Brian took Jennifer’s hand in his and looked deeply into her eyes. They stepped inside the circle and he dropped down on his knee and asked her to marry him. Garret got to them in a flash and was playing Elvis’ famous song, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.” Jennifer looked at Garret and then at me taking photographs, and then back at Brian.
She was truly surprised. Tears of joy flowed down her cheeks and she said ‘YES’. The following photos reveal more I can express with words. It was a beautiful sunset and I had a great time shooting them for the next hour.
