When Sarah’s mom, Carmella, reached out to me about photographing their family portraits at Hanalei Bay, I knew this would be a meaningful session, but I had no idea just how special it would become. Hanalei Bay held a treasured place in the family’s heart, having been the backdrop for many vacations and cherished memories over the years. With the recent passing of Carmella’s husband and Sarah’s father, this family trip carried even more significance. What Sarah didn’t know was that her boyfriend, Luke, had a very special surprise planned. Together, the family conspired to make Sarah believe they were simply gathering for a family photoshoot, while Luke secretly planned to propose at her favorite beach. In the middle of the session, with her family gathered around her, Luke got down on one knee and asked Sarah to marry him. The joy, tears, and excitement that followed were unforgettable. It was such a beautiful moment to witness, and an incredible honor to capture a surprise that brought the whole family together in celebration and love.
